The End of the Pocket Wine Cellar
Several years ago, I introduced my Pocket Wine Cellar application for Palm handheld computers. It was a very convenient way of carrying wine reviews with you to restaurants and stores, and it worked well with the technology of the time.
In the intervening years, Palm came out with a new operating system that would have required a rebuild of the Pocket Wine Cellar from scratch, which would have been prohibitively expensive. At the same time, other handheld systems were coming out with different operating systems, and so a different approach looked like the best idea.
Anticipating the widespread use of wireless web connections with handheld computers, I presented my Personal Wine Cellar, which has all the functionality of the Pocket Wine Cellar and works through the website.
My web development team has also been looking at other means of delivering database information to as many members in as many places as possible, and have come up with several interesting ideas. We're looking at the best way to give you the most service.
Meanwhile, we kept steadily updating the Pocket Wine Cellar every month. But now, the time has come to retire it altogether. The operating system for which it was designed is several years out of date, and a simple update to it is not going to keep up with the sweep of modern technology. So I regret to say that the Pocket Wine Cellar and its updates are no longer available.
Please do avail yourself of the Personal Wine Cellar. It's very useful, and most handheld computers now can access the web wirelessly.
And please "watch this space," as they say. More advances are in the offing!
