680 NEWS wine reviews – April 14–16, 2006

Rosemount Sauvignon Blanc 2005 (Australia)
If you're looking for a classy Sauvignon Blanc that's not too grassy, try Rosemount Diamond Label Sauvignon Blanc 2005 from Australia. Its colour is medium straw and it has a concentrated nose of tropical fruit, like guava and passionfruit with just a note of freshly cut grass; it's medium-bodied with a touch of sweetness, well balanced with enough acidity to give it balance. It's good value at $14.10. try it with blackened scallops or Caesar salad. That's Rosemount Diamond label Sauvignon Blanc 2005 from Australia. For Post City magazines, I'm Tony Aspler. (LCBO #329573)

Bolla Sicilia Rosso 2003 (Sicily)
Sicily is rapidly becoming a hot wine region and I'm not talking climate here. The Bolla company in Veneto has bottled a wine called Bolla Rosso di Sicilia 2003, made from the local Nero d'Avola grape. For $10.95 you get a wine that's deep ruby in colour with a floral, red licorice and plum bouquet. It's quite intense with flavours of bitter chocolate, plum and black licorice. It's soft on the palate with grainy tannins. That's Bolla Rosso di Sicilia 2003. Match it with spicy pasta dishes. For Post City Magazines, I'm Tony Aspler. (LCBO #621128)
