Three California wines this week:

J. Lohr Winery Estates Riverstone Chardonnay 2004
$19.05 (LCBO #258699)
Deeply coloured with a ripe, toasty, pineapple bouquet; medium to full-bodied with spicy oak adding to the tropical fruit flavours; good balancing acidity. ****
Food match: tuna steak; grilled salmon

Domaine Chandon Brut Cuvée
$22.95 (LCBO #94946)
A great champagne substitute at half the price. Pale straw colour, lively mousse, a nose of lemons and apples with a mouth-filling flavour of green melon and a fresh, citrus finish. ****
Food match: roast pheasant; lobster in cream sauce

Cline Cellars Zinfandel 2004
$13.85 (LCBO #489278)
A well-priced Zin. Ruby coloured with a bouquet of plum and red berries; richly extracted fruit with an earthy note than finishes with a flavour of dark chocolate. Fine acidic finish. ****
