Winzer Krems Grüner Veltliner 2005 (Austria)
$9.35 (LCBO #589002)
This new vintage is one of the best I’ve tried at this bargain price. Very pale colour with a minerally, white pepper, and citrus peel nose. It’s light to medium-bodied with a fresh, green-apple and lime flavour with a laurel leaf note. Good value ***1/2
Food match: aperitif; smoked fish

Cave Spring CSV Riesling 2004 (Ontario)
$30 (at the Winery: 905-562-3581, or through www.winerytohome.com)
Simply the best Riesling made in Ontario. Medium straw colour with a hint of lime; intense bouquet of petrol and lime with a minerally note. On the palate, medium-bodied, concentrated, lime and lemon flavours, very Rheingau in style with an engaging touch of sweetness in mid-palate. ****1/2
Food match: grilled squid; cold salmon

Southbrook Barrel-Fermented Chardonnay 2004 (Ontario)
$11.95 (Winery: 905-832-2548 or www.winerytohome.com)
Straw coloured with an oaky, woody nose overpowering the fruit at the moment but its lively orange and apple flavours leading to a toasty finish suggest a few months in bottle will make this a very attractive wine for the price. **1/2
Food match: roast chicken; Caesar salad
