Ernest & Julio Gallo Sierra Valley Chardonnay 2004 (California)
$9.95
This entry-level California Chardonnay is very stylish for the price. Medium straw in colour with a nose of pear, it's medium-bodied with a spicy pear and lemon flavour that ends on a dry, chalky note. ***½
Food match: grilled scallops; runny Brie

Southbrook Farm Winery Cabernet Merlot 2002 (Ontario)
$14.95 (LCBO #669333)
Claret-style at a bargain price. Ruby-purple in colour; cedar, raspberries with a touch of oak on the nose; medium-bodied, well made, dry curranty flavour with vanilla oak and a firm finish. ***½
Food match: lamb chops; roast beef

Mission Hill Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve 2005 (British Columbia)
$20.95 (LCBO #553321)
Worth paying a little more for this tasty BC offering. Deep purple colour with a bouquet of cedar, blackcurrants, vanilla oak and a floral note; medium-bodied, well balanced with nicely integrated oak. A sweet, toothsome wine. ****
Food match: rack of lamb; aged Cheddar
