Kressmann Solo Viognier 2005 (Pays d'Oc)
$10.95 (LCBO # 619304)
A bargain-priced Viognier that actually tastes like Viognier. Medium straw colour; honeysuckle and spicy nectarine nose; medium to full-bodied, off-dry with a peachy-nectarine flavour. ****
Food match: pork and apple sauce; Dolcelatte cheese

Mother Cluckers Chardonnay 2005 (New Zealand)
$14.85 (LCBO # 620088)
From the folks who brought you Cat's Pee on a Gooseberry Bush (Cooper's Creek). Straw colour; spicy apple nose; medium-bodied, fresh and lively on the palate with a touch of residual sweetness but nicely integrated oak. ***½
Food match: veal cutlets; pineapple chicken

Codorníu Brut Clasico Cava (Penedes, Spain)
$10.70 (LCBO # 503490)
My choice for an inexpensive sparkler. Straw coloured with a nose of baked bread; medium-bodied, dry, clean with a green apple flavour and good length. ***½
Food match: aperitif wine; shrimps
