Gallo Family Vineyards Pinot Noir 2005 (California)
$11.85 (LCBO #669101)
Gallo goes screwcap for this tasty full-bodied Pinot Noir at a bargain price. Deep ruby colour with a nose of oak and black cherry plus a floral note; full-bodied, a sweet core to the cherry fruit, well extracted and firm. You can't beat the price. ***½
Food match: steak; lamb shanks

Lulu B Pinot Noir 2004 (Pays d'Oc)
$12.85 (LCBO #669010)
Quite a contrast to the Gallo Pinot Noir. This one is more in Beaujolais style; earthy cherry nose, full-bodied, dry and firmly structured with good acidity. Chillable and versatile as a food wine. ***½
Food match: grilled tuna; cheddar

Torres De Casta Rosado 2005 (Spain)
$10.90 (LCBO #619916)
One of the best rosés I've tasted under $11. Cherry coloured with a lively red berry nose; full on the palate with cherry and pomegranate flavours; a hint of residual sugar balances nicely with the acidity. Good value. ***½
Food match: paella; chicken salad
