Mother Cluckers Chardonnay 2005
From Cooper's Creek winery in New Zealand – the folks who brought you Cat's Pee on a Gooseberry Bush – comes another scatological product featuring a brood of hens on the label. It's called Mother Cluckers Chardonnay 2005. Once you get by the name, the wine is pretty good. Straw coloured with a spicy apple nose, it's medium-bodied, fresh and lively on the palate with a touch of residual sweetness but nicely integrated oak. It costs $14.85 a bottle. I had it with pineapple chicken and it worked very well. That's Mother Cluckers Chardonnay 2005 from New Zealand. For Post City magazines, I'm Tony Aspler. ($14.85, LCBO #620088)

Monkey Bay Sauvignon Blanc 2005
The signature grape for New Zealand is Sauvignon Blanc, and newly arrived on LCBO shelves is a good example of how delicious this wine can be. I guess you could put it in the critter category because it's called Monkey Bay Sauvignon Blanc 2005. It costs $14.45 a bottle. The wine is straw coloured with a minerally, green plum and gooseberry bouquet; in the mouth it's medium-bodied, fresh and lively with an engaging sweetness in mid palate and a zesty, grassy finish. It's the kind of wine that goes well with avocado salad or goat cheese. That's Monkey Bay Sauvignon Blanc 2005 from New Zealand. For Post City magazines, I'm Tony Aspler. ($14.45, LCBO #620062)
