A blend of 80% Sangiovese, 10% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Merlot. Dense ruby colour, rustic, earthy, plum and blackberry fruit; medium-bodied, sweet plumy fruit, soft on the mid palate but with a good acidic finish. Old-style Italian wine. ****
Food match: tomato-based pasta dishes; pizza

Cave Spring Gamay 2004 (Ontario)

Light ruby colour; peppery cherry nose with a touch of violets; light to medium-bodied, sweet rhubarb and cherry flavours, lively acidity. A Beaujolais substitute. Great value. ****

Medium straw colour, apple and pear aromas overlaid with spicy oak; medium-bodied apple and green pineapple flavour with citrus acidity and a lengthy finish. Great value. ****
