All Down Under whites this week...

Stoneleigh Sauvignon Blanc 2006 (New Zealand)
$14.95 (LCBO #293043)
The wine is pale straw in colour with a vivid, grassy, passionfruit, lemon and grapefruit bouquet – flavours that explode on the palate. It's a very elegant crisply dry wine and it costs $14.95 a bottle. Great value. ****
Food match: blackened scallops; goat cheese salad

Stoneleigh Marlborough Chardonnay 2004 (New Zealand)
$15 (LCBO #288795)
A beautifully made wine with a spicy apple nose redolent with cloves and vanilla. A lovely fresh tangerine flavour fills the mouth carried on lively acidity to a nutty oak finish. ***½
Food match: grilled fish or white meat

Little Penguin Chardonnay 2005 (Australia)
$10.95 (LCBO #598904)
An introductory Chardonnay with a butter nut nose and a sweet, spicy pineapple and buttered popcorn flavour. The price is right for this full-bodied, fruit-driven wine. ***
Food match: roast chicken or spicy wings
