Peninsula Ridge Inox Chardonnay 2005 (Ontario)
$19.95 (LCBO #7328)
Inox is French for stainless steel. Winemaker Jean-Pierre Colas, formerly with Domaine Laroche in Chablis, is a dab hand at this unoaked style of wine. Pale straw colour; sweet apple and mineral nose; medium-bodied, with a lovely mouth-feel, dry and beautifully balanced: ****
Food match: grilled salmon; runny Camembert

Château des Charmes Cabernet-Merlot 2002 (Ontario)
$19.95 (LCBO #222372)
A wine in Bordeaux petit château style, Ruby colour with a nose of cedar and currants; light to medium-bodied, firmly structured with a fresh red currant and dark chocolate flavour; nicely oaked. Decant an hour before serving. ***½
Food match: lamb chops; grilled quail

Zonin Valpolicella Terre Palladine 2004 (Veneto)
$10.60 (LCBO #620559)
A simple, delicious red wine that behaves like a Beaujolais. Ruby colour, fruity wild cherry nose; light-bodied, fresh and easy drinking. Chillable. ***½
Food match: pizza; bouillabaisse
