Errazuriz Estate Carmenere 2005 (Chile)

Chile's signature grape, an ancient Bordeaux varietal. Dense purple-black colour; concentrated nose of black fruits, very forward. Full-bodied, well extracted blackcurrant and dark chocolate flavours, round and smooth on the palate with a firm finish. Good value. ****
Food match: pepper steak; venison

Durbanville Hills Sauvignon Blanc 2006 (South Africa)
$12.95 (LCBO #22251)
Pale straw colour; grassy, green bean nose. Medium-bodied, dry and fruity with a crisp acidic finish. Well made. ***½
Food match: ratatouille; goat's cheese

Angels Gate Vidal Blanc 2005 (Ontario)
$11.95 (from the winery, 905-563-3942, or www.winerytohome.com).
A very gulpable, off-dry Vidal. Medium straw colour, with a sweetish nose reminiscent of star fruit with a floral note. Medium-bodied, sweetish, spicy, lots of extract, melon and citrus flavours with a dry finish. ***½
