 WINES OF THE WEEK

More Wines of the Week

  • Evans & Tate Chardonnay 2005
  • Lizard Flat Cabernet Sauvignon/Merlot 2002
  • Lizard Flat Chardonnay Verdelho 2005

Three Aussie wines this week.

Evans & Tate Chardonnay 2005 (Margaret River)
$19.95 (to be released at Vintages on Saturday, March 31, #022145)
This a real bargain in a quality Chardonnay. Medium straw colour, a minerally nose with a touch of oak and sweet fruit; full-bodied, pineapple flavour with balancing acidity and good length. ****½
Food match: grilled salmon; chicken in a cream sauce

Lizard Flat Cabernet Sauvignon/Merlot 2002 (Australia)
$13.15 for 1000 mL ( LCBO #20602)
Unquestionably the best red tetrapak red that the LCBO has to offer. It actually tastes like a good wine. It’s rich and spicy with sweet blackberry-blackcurrant flavours; remarkably elegant and well balanced with a chocolate note on the finish. Great value. ***½
Food match: lamb stew: cheddar cheese

Lizard Flat Chardonnay Verdelho 2005 (Australia)
$13.15 for 1000 mL (LCBO #20610)
Not in the same class as the red but a useful and tasty white. Medium straw colour with a peachy nose; rich and well extracted peach and apple flavours with a good acidic spine. Good value. ***
Food match: pork loin; tuna salad
