  • Coyotes Run Cabernet Franc 2005

Errazuriz Carmenere 2005 (Chile)
$14.15 (LCBO #16238)
Chile's signature grape, once thought to be Merlot but more Cabernet Franc in character. Deeply coloured with a spicy nose of blackberry, dark chocolate and vanilla oak. Full on the palate with chocolate and black fruit flavours and a herbal note on the finish. Good value. ****
Food match: pepper steak; beef casserole

Fielding Sauvignon Blanc 2006 (Ontario)
$20 (only available at the wine winery – call 1-888-778-7758. Or, better still, visit at 4020 Locust Lane, Beamsville, Ont.)
Worth the drive to Beamsville. Pale straw colour, minerally citrus bouquet with a grassy note; medium-bodied with gooseberry and peach flavour; some sweetness in mid-palate with a crisp, grapefruit finish. ****
Food match: pork tenderloin; lobster

Coyotes Run Cabernet Franc 2005 (Ontario)
$22.20 (available through www.winerytohome.com or at the winery, 1-877-COYOTE3 (269-6833) or 905-682-8310)
Deep ruby colour with a blackberry nose that is more reminiscent of Syrah than Cab Franc because of its smokiness from the oak. Medium-bodied with a dry, elegant, well structured with a firm blackberry and currant flavour and a firm tannic finish. ****
Food match: roast beef; light game
