Pale, almost water white with a peach pit nose; light-bodied with a pear and peach flavour; touch of spritziness on the palate. Clean, well made. ***½

Billy Goat Hill Cabernet Merlot 2005 (Western Australia)
$18.95 (Vintages #25072)
70% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot. Dense purple in colour with a smoky, toasty oak and blackcurrant nose. The full-bodied flavours are sweet blackcurrant and blueberry backed by lively acidity. You'll find it at some Vintages outlets. A wine for red meat eaters. ****
Food match: steak; veal chops

Raimat Abadia Crianza 2003 (Spain)
$15.95 (Vintages #935460)
Cabernet Sauvignon with Tempranillo and Merlot. Ruby colour with a tawny rim; spicy cherry nose with a cedary-oaky note. Medium-bodied, dry, savoury, red berry flavours with a firm tannic finish. Well made with decent length. Good value. ****
Food matches: strong hard cheeses; grilled ham steak
