Fabiano Pinot Grigio 2006
I gotta confess that I'm not a great fan of Pinot Grigio. I know it's the best-selling Italian white but for the most part I find it's a wine that lacks character. For the good ones you have to spend $20 or more. But I did come across a Pinot Grigio this week that I really enjoyed and it only cost $14.95. It's Fabiano Pinot Grigio 2006 and the package is pretty sexy. You can either get a woman from the waist down stomping grapes in red high heels or a guy doing the same dressed in sneakers. But it's what in the bottle that counts: pale straw colour; a nose of lemon, white peach and pear, flavours that express themselves on the palate with lively acidity. Serve it with roast pork or spaghetti vongole. That's Fabiano Pinot Grigio 2006 from Italy. For Post City Magazines, I'm Tony Aspler. ($14.95, LCBO #34066)

Dante Rivetti Moscato d'Asti Riveto 2005
The best way to prolong the summer is to drink a wine that is pure sunshine in a bottle. In fact, it's my favourite summer wine for pre-BBQ sipping. At 5% alcohol, you hardly know you're drinking wine. It tastes like biting into a fresh Muscat grape and it leaves a feeling of bubbles on the tongue. It's Dante Rivetti Moscato d'Asti Riveto 2005 from Italy's Piemonte region. The taste is sweet and grapey, with a spicy, aromatic nose of carnations and cardamom – a wine to enjoy without making a chess problem out of it. It costs $17.95. Chill it and serve it as an aperitif or at the end of a meal with cake or dessert. That's Dante Rivetti Moscato d'Asti Riveto 2005 from Italy. For Post City Magazines, I'm Tony Aspler. ($17.95, LCBO #30775)
