Australian Regional Heroes

The "Australian Regional Heroes" wine tasting, hosted by Wine Australia, kicks off its cross-Canada tour in Vancouver on September 18, 2007. Hitting Vancouver, Calgary, Montreal and Toronto, the show will shine a spotlight on the regionally distinct wines coming out of Australia.

The events feature the Aussie wineries and wine-producers that have blazed a trail for their region's identity through their varietal choices and the styles of wine that are produced; a distinct sense of place will be portrayed in all the wines in the room.

The Toronto tasting has over 55 wineries and exceeds 225 wines on show. Wineries will be grouped by region to walk you across the country and create a tasty trip around Australia.

Winery principals descend on Toronto in the days leading up to the event. Notable mentions include senior winemakers Derek Fitzgerald from Thorn Clarke and Steve Webber of DeBortoli.

Finger food stations will reveal pairing possibilities for a selection of the Australian cooler climate wines, Riesling and Pinot Noir as well as the ever popular Cabernet Sauvignon.
