- Vina Santa Rita Chardonnay Medalla Real 2005
- Vina Errazuriz Max Reserva Shiraz 2005
- Vina Miguel Torres Santa Digna Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon 2004
A couple of weeks ago I tasted 46 Chilean wines blind. I have chosen three for this week that offer tremendous value for the price.
Vina Santa Rita Chardonnay Medalla Real 2005 (Casablanca Valley)
$18.95 (LCBO #303628)
Straw colour; intense peachy, earthy nose; medium to full-bodied with ripe tropical fruit flavours. The sweetness of the mid palate dries on the finish. ****
Food match: grilled chicken; tuna steak
Vina Errazuriz Max Reserva Shiraz 2005 (Aconcagua Valley)
$18.15 (LCBO #614750)
Dense purple colour; spicy blackberry nose; concentrated, full-bodied, well extracted black fruits; nicely balanced with a smoky, peppery note on the finish. ****½
Food match: pepper steak; loin of venison
Vina Miguel Torres Santa Digna Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon 2004 (Curico Valley)
$14.95 (Vintages #177451)
Dense purple-black; smoky blackcurrant nose; medium-bodied, firmly structured with richly extracted blackcurrant flavour finishing with mellow tannins. A wine that punches well above its weight. ****½
Food match: roast lamb; mature cheddar.
