  • Flat Roof Manor Cabernet Sauvignon/Sangiovese 2005
  • Miguel Torres Santa Digna Sauvignon Blanc Reserve 2006

Heathfield Ridge Wonambi Shiraz 2004 (Australia)
$13.05 (LCBO #599100)
A bargain-priced Aussie Shiraz. Deep ruby-purple colour with a fruity black raspberry and white pepper nose; velvety mouth feel, well extracted fruit balanced by lively acidity. ***½
Food match: duck breast; pork loin

Flat Roof Manor Cabernet Sauvignon/Sangiovese 2005 (South Africa)
$13.95 (LCBO #27110)
In the Chianti region some producers blend Cabernet Sauvignon with their Sangiovese wine. The South African producer Uitkyk (pronounced Ate Cake) has taken up the idea and produced a kind of reverse concept: Cabernet Sauvignon with some Sangiovese. The wine has a smoky, tarry, blackcurrant nose with flavours of currants and cherries. ***½
Food match: lasagna; fresh parmesan

Miguel Torres Santa Digna Sauvignon Blanc Reserve 2006 (Chile)
$12.95 (Vintages stores #177444)
The wine is pale straw in colour with a grassy, grapefruit bouquet. On the palate, you get that fresh and mouth-tingling flavour of gooseberries and a long clean, dry finish. Medium-bodied. ***½
Food match: grilled tilapia; goat's cheese.
