Twin Fin Shiraz 2003 (California)
$14.15 (LCBO #34132)
The Aussies don't have it all their own way in the budget Shiraz department. This California wine is dense purple-black in colour with a minerally blackberry nose; medium to full-bodied, sweet and fruity with a smoky note and a dry dark chocolate flavour on the finish. Good value. ***½
Food match: BBQ ribs; hamburger

Moueix Merlot 2003 (Bordeaux)
$14.95 (Vintages #961227)
This is a Vintages Essential, which means, theoretically, it should always be in stock in Vintages. Deep ruby colour with a creamy, cedar and black fruit nose; medium-bodied, elegant and dry; firmly structured, well made. ****
Food match: leg of lamb; veal

Louis Jadot Bourgogne Chardonnay 2005 (Burgundy)
$18.95 (Vintages #933077)
Another Vintages Essential wine. A very affordable white Burgundy. Straw colour; toasty oak with clove and apple nuances on the nose; medium-bodied, well balanced, medium-bodied, dry and clean; well balanced fruit, oak and acidity. ****
Food match: salmon steak; roast chicken
