500 Best Value Wines in the LCBO
$19.95
Not a wine recommendation but a book recently published by my wine writer colleagues Rod Phillips and Vic Harradine. Rod & Vic tasted their way through the LCBO list and Vintages Essential wines, paring them down to their 500 top wines in terms of price for value. The wines are rated out of five stars with written descriptions and room for you to make your own notes. Published by Whitecap.

Royal Tokay Wine Company Dry Furmint 2006 (Hungary)
12.95 (Vintages #653220)
Furmint, the grape most widely used for the sweet dessert wine Tokai, can also be made in dry style. This wine is medium straw in colour with a spicy, aromatic, leafy nose reminiscent of a Viognier. The floral note in mid palate is carried on lively lemony acidity. Great value. ****
Food match: blackened scallops; Thai dishes

Kopke Full Rich Ruby Port (Douro Valley)
$14.30 (LCBO # 35766)
A well priced ruby. Dense ruby-purple colour; sweet, succulent mulberry and milk chocolate flavours that sustain well on the palate. Full on the palate, not complex but flavourful. ****
Food match: blue cheese; chocolate mousse
