500 Best Value Wines in the LCBO
This is not a wine recommendation but a wine book recently published by my wine writer colleagues Rod Phillips and Vic Harradine from Ottawa. It's called 500 Best Value Wines in the LCBO. Rod & Vic manfully tasted their way through all the wines on the LCBO's general list and those wines that are Vintages Essential wines. They then selected their 500 top wines in terms of price for value. The wines are rated out of five stars with written descriptions and there's room underneath each wine for you to make your own notes. 500 Best Value Wines in the LCBO is published Whitecap and costs $19.95. Royal Tokay Wine Company Dry Furmint 2006
Furmint is a grape the grow in Hungary to make that country's famous dessert wine, Tokay not to be confused with the dry wine made in Alsace called Tokay Pinot Gris. The Hungarians also make Furmint as a dry white wine and there's a wonderful example currently available in Vintages stores made by the Royal Tokai Company. This wine is medium straw in colour with a spicy, aromatic, leafy nose reminiscent of a Viognier. The floral note in mid palate is carried on lively lemony acidity. It's terrific value at $12.95. That's Royal Tokay Wine Company Dry Furmint 2006 from Hungary, available only at Vintages outlets. For Post City Magazines, I'm Tony Aspler. ($12.95, Vintages #653220)
