Kopke Full Rich Ruby Port
As the weather turns cold there's nothing like a glass of port after dinner by the fire with a bowl of walnuts. Or you can match port at the dinner table with game pâté, blue cheese or chocolate desserts. While Vintage ports can be pretty costly, you can buy a simple young ruby port quite inexpensively. A well priced ruby from Portugal's Douro Valley is Kopke Full Rich Ruby. It costs $14.30 at the LCBO. It's dense ruby-purple in colour with sweet, succulent mulberry and milk chocolate flavours that sustain well on the palate. It's full bodied, not complex but very flavourful. That's Kopke Full Rich Ruby Port from Portugal's Douro Valley. If you can't make a note of it, go to 680News.com and click on my link for this review. For Post City Magazines, I'm Tony Aspler. ($14.30, LCBO #35766)

Twin Fin Shiraz 2003
The Aussies don't have it all their own way when it comes to wallet-friendly Shiraz. I'm talking under $15 here. Twin Fin Shiraz 2003 from California, newly listed at the LCBO, is dense purple-black in colour with a minerally blackberry nose. It's medium to full-bodied, sweet and fruity with a smoky note and a dry, dark chocolate flavour on the finish. It's good value at $14.15 a bottle. Serve it with ribs or hamburgers if you're still barbecuing or any hearty red meat dish. That's Twin Fin Shiraz 2003 from California. For Post City Magazines, I'm Tony Aspler. ($14.15, LCBO #34132)
