Jackson-Triggs Grand Reserve Chardonnay 2001

Medium straw colour; smoky, toasty, tropical fruit nose; medium-bodied, sweet and spicy on the palate with tropical fruit flavours in mid-palate giving way to a green apple acidity. Food match: poached salmon, mushroom risotto.

Peninsula Ridge Cabernet Rosé 2000
$10.95
Made from Cabernet Franc, one of the best Ontario rosés, a terrific summer wine. Orange-pink hue; one the nose, strawberries, full on the palate lively and clean with a flavour of strawberries and raspberries; well made. Available from the winery (info@peninsularidge.com; phone: 905-563-0900). Food match: grilled quail, crab salad.

Angels Gate Old Vine Chardonnay 2000
$23.95
The winery's first release, made from grapes grown by Daniel Lenko from a 40-year-old vineyard. Medium straw colour; spicy, smoky nose; clean, elegant lines in Burgundy style, spicy apple flavour, good length with a toasty finish. Available only at the winery (905-563-3942). Food match: lobster, Camembert).
