A good value Cab from California. Ruby-coloured, with a nose of black
cherries, blackcurrants, cedar and a top note of violets. Medium-bodied
with a snappish acidity in the tail. Food suggestions: lamb chops,
Fontanafredda Eremo Barbera Nebbiolo 1998 (Langhe, Piedmont)
An unusual blend of two Piemontese varietals. Ruby-purple colour; coconut,
black cherry nose; spicy cherry, firmly structured with a lively acidic
finish. Interesting wine for the price. Food suggestion: pasta
in tomato sauce, Parmesan cheese.
Pillittteri Gewurztraminer/Riesling 2000 (Niagara Peninsula, Ontario)
Cheerful, quaffing summer wine. A blend of 70% Gewurz with 30% Riesling.
Medium straw colour; spicy grapefruit nose; off-dry, light, spicy red
grapefruit flavour with a rose grace note. It will make you smile. Food
suggestion: Thai dishes, light curries or as a chilled aperitif.
