Twin Fin Cabernet Sauvignon Merlot 2006
The thing about BBQ wines is that you're not looking for delicacy and finesse. You need lots of flavour at a decent price. New World wines usually fill the bill. Try this California red – Twin Fin Cabernet Sauvignon Merlot 2006. For $11.95 you get a deeply coloured red wine with a smoky black plum nose. It's soft and round on the palate; easy drinking with a sweetish flavour of plums and blackberries. Works well with hamburgers or ribs. That's Twin Fin Cabernet Sauvignon Merlot 2006 from California. El Burro Shiraz 2006
El Burro Shiraz from Spain is a wine I've recommended before. The new vintage from 2006 is now on the shelves at the LCBO. It's not a style of red wine you usually associate with Spain. Call it international or New World gutsy. It's dense purple in colour with a plummy nose; it's dry and full-bodied with a dark chocolate flavour with a note of herbs and a firm structure. It costs $12.95 on the LCBO's general product list and it's hearty enough to stand up to a steak dinner or a hunk of fresh parmesan. That's El Burro Shiraz from Spain. Pull the cork, pour it into a jug or a decanter and let it sit for an hour before serving. For Post City Magazines. I'm Tony Aspler. ($12.95, LCBO #70938)
