Southbrook Cabernet Merlot Shiraz 2006
Southbrook Farms Winery has moved from its Richmond Hill location down to a glamorous, ultra modern facility in Niagara-on-the-Lake. In fact, it's the first winery you hit on Niagara Stone Road. And winemaker Anne Sperling continues to produce some very tasty offerings there. Currently at the LCBO is an interesting red blend at a good price. Southbrook Cabernet Merlot Shiraz 2006 is deep ruby in colour with a nose of black cherries, wet earth and green peppers. It's medium-bodied with lively acidity. An ideal wine for barbecued red meats. The cost: $15.05. That's Southbrook Cabernet Merlot Shiraz 2006 from Ontario. For Post City Magazines, I'm Tony Aspler. ($15.05, LCBO #45609)

Cono Sur Viognier 2007
Cono Sur is a Chilean winery that continues to surprise me with the quality of its varietal wines for the price. I'm a great fan of Cono Sur Pinot Noir and I was delighted by the arrival of Cono Sur Viognier 2007 to the LCBO shelves. This wine is a steal at $9.95. Medium straw in colour, it offers a complex bouquet of honeysuckle and ripe peaches, aromas that carry through to the flavours on the palate. It's quite full-bodied with lively acidity and a touch of residual sweetness. The kind of wine that goes well with spicy dishes like lightly curried chicken. That's Cono Sur Viognier 2007 from Chile. For Post City Magazines, I'm Tony Aspler. ($9.95, LCBO #64287)
