680News wine reviews – June 20–22, 2008

Bouchard Père & Fils Beaujolais-Villages 2006
At this time of year when the weather heats up you want a chillable red wine to drink on the patio. And that means Beaujolais. Bouchard Père & Fils Beaujolais-Villages 2006 is well-priced, easy-drinking wine. Ruby-purple in colour, it offers fruity cherry and raspberry flavours with a touch of white pepper on the finish. It costs $13.10 at the LCBO. Fifteen minutes in an ice bucket filled with water and ice cubes is enough to bring it to the right temperature. That's Bouchard Père & Fils Beaujolais-Villages 2006 from the Burgundy region. Try it with roast chicken or runny cheeses. For Post City magazines, I'm Tony Aspler. ($13.10, LCBO #665448)

J.M. da Fonseca Periquita 2005
Believe it or not, there are wines under $10 that are worth drinking. Jose Maria da Fonseca Periquita 2005 is the Portuguese equivalent of Beaujolais. It's deep ruby in colour with a nose of cherries and strawberries and a touch of leather. It costs $9.40 a bottle. It's light and easy drinking with soft tannins. You can serve it at room temperature or chill it lightly. Serve it with grilled Portuguese sausages or hamburgers. That's Jose Maria da Fonseca Periquita 2005 from Portugal. You can find this review by visiting 680News.com and clicking on my link. For Post City Magazines, I'm Tony Aspler. ($9.40, LCBO #25262)
