Deep ruby colour; a nose of cedar, red berry and blueberries; medium to full-bodied, sweet well extracted fruit, nicely balanced with acidity. Soft tannins, easy drinking. ***½

Hillebrand Trius White 2007 (Ontario)
$19.15 (Available only at the winery or www.winerytohome.com)
Better than the 2006 that won the gold medal at this year's Ontario Wine Awards in April. A blend of Gewürztraminer, Riesling, Pinot Gris and Chardonnay. Pale straw colour; spicy, grapefruit and citrus nose; off-dry, medium-bodied, beautifully balanced with good length. ****
Food match: Thai dishes; cold ham

Nederburg Sauvignon Blanc 2007 (South Africa)

More in Loire style than New Zealand. Pale straw with a lime tint; grassy, green fig and elderberry nose; medium-bodied, crisp and refreshing with grapefruit, lime, pear and green fig flavours. Good value. ****
