Peller Ice Cuvée
It's amazing what you can do with Icewine. Ontario producers have made grappa out of it, added it to brandy and come up with Icewine cocktails. Peller Estates has gone one step further and added Icewine as a dosage to their sparkling wine. They call it Peller Ice Cuvée and, for those of you old enough to remember, Andrew Peller, the grand father of the current owner of Peller Estates, got his start by selling ice as well as Peller beer in the 1950s. This off-dry sparkling wine with a dollop of Icewine has an orange and apricot bouquet with a creamy mouth-feel. It costs $19.95 a bottle. That's Peller Ice Cuvée. For Post City Magazines, I'm Tony Aspler. ($19.95, LCBO #53199)

Cono Sur Vision Merlot 2007
Chile does very tasty Merlot at affordable prices. Take Cono Sur Vision Merlot 2007 for example. It costs $15.95 a bottle at Vintages but it certainly punches above its weight in the flavour that it delivers. The wine is dense purple-black in colour. The nose is concentrated cedar and blackcurrant with vanilla oak notes; chunky. It's full-bodied with blackcurrant and black cherry flavours ending with soft, dusty tannins. Serve it with duck breast or veal chop. If you missed this review you can read it by going to 680News.com and clicking on my link. For Post City Magazines. I'm Tony Aspler. ($15.95, Vintages #928291)
