Three wines to be released this Saturday at Vintages:
Featherstone Gewürztraminer 2007 (Ontario)
$18.95 (Vintages #0064592)
Medium straw colour; high toned nose of rose petals and lychee; medium-bodied, intense sweet lychee fruit; mouth-filling and well balanced. A lovely wine. ****½
Food match: Thai dishes; ginger chicken
Tandem Porter-Bass Vineyards Chardonnay 2004 (Sonoma Coast, California)
$51.95 (Vintages #0684373)
Expensive, yes; but a terrific wine. Winemaker Greg La Folette has done a great job with this wine. Golden straw in colour with a nose of caramel, butter and toasty oak. Full-bodied sweet and spicy melon flavour; rich and mouth-filling. *****
Food match: grilled lobster; roast goose
Catapereiro Vinho Tinto 2005 (Portugal)
$14.95 (Vintages #0080358)
A blend of Castelao (Periquita) and Alicante Bouschet. Deep ruby in colour with a spicy red berry nose; medium-bodied with sweet blueberry fruit; simple but delicious with a clove finish; firmly structured. Good value.
Food match: steak; pork ribs.
