Gessinger Zeltinger Sonnenuhr Riesling Auslese 2005
Now here's a wine that's a mouthful in both senses. Gessinger Zeltinger Sonnenuhr Riesling Auslese 2005 from the Mosel. This is wine a sip before dinner or to take your mind off the stock market. It's a sweet wine but it's so beautifully balanced with racy acidity that it coats the tongue with honey and peach blossom and slips down the throat with fruit salad flavours of sweet grapefruit, apricot and mango. It's available at Vintages stores for $27.95. That's Gessinger Zeltinger Sonnenuhr Riesling Auslese 2005. At Vintages. Check the name by visiting 680 News.com and clicking on my link. Peninsula Ridge Viognier 2007
Viognier is one of those grape varieties that you might overlook as you scan LCBO shelves but in Ontario it makes a really good wine. Peninsula Ridge Viognier 2007 is a bargain at $13.85. If you can't find at your local Vintages outlet, try www.winerytohome.com – or, better still, visit the winery in Beamsville. The wine has a bouquet of ripe peach and honeysuckle with an earthy note. On the palate it's full-bodied with a spicy peach flavour with lively acidity and good length. Try it with roast chicken. That's Peninsula Ridge Viognier 2007 from Ontario. For Post City Magazines, I'm Tony Aspler. ($13.85, Vintages #662601)
