680News wine reviews – December 12–14, 2008

Henry of Pelham Sauvignon Blanc 2007
Ontario made some very tasty Sauvignon Blanc last year. A good example is Henry of Pelham Sauvignon Blanc 2007, currently available at Vintages stores for $14.95. Pale straw colour, it has a nose of apple and grapefruit. It's medium-bodied, crisp, well balanced with a minerally grapefruit flavour and lively acidic finish. Try it with grilled calamari or Caesar Salad. That's Henry of Pelham Sauvignon Blanc 2007 from Ontario at Vintages. If you miss any of these wine reviews go to 680News.com and click on my link. For Post City Magazines, I'm Tony Aspler. ($14.95, Vintages #430546)

Flat Rock Pinot Noir 2007
2007 was Ontario's greatest vintage, particularly for red wines. Remember that long hot summer that allowed the grapes to ripen fully? That ripeness is reflected in wines like Flat Rock Cellars Pinot Noir 2007, currently at Vintages stores at $19.95. The wine has a vanilla, cherry and mineral nose and chunky mouth feel; it's medium-bodied with earthy, beetroot and cherry flavours and a tannic lift on the finish. Try it with roast chicken or a tuna steak. That's Flat Rock Cellars Pinot Noir 2007 from Ontario. For Post City Magazines, I'm Tony Aspler. ($19.95, Vintages #1545)
