Montes Cherub Rosé of Syrah 2008
If you'd like a little reminder of summer in these dark, cold days, try a bottle of Montes Cherub Rosé of Syrah 2008 from Chile. Actually, I had this wine a month ago at the winery in Chile when the weather outside was 30 degrees. The wine is deeply coloured, light ruby with a bluish tint; it has a nose of fresh raspberries and pomegranate and a flavour of candied raspberry. It's full on the palate with a dry, sour cherry finish. The wine has enough heft to match crab dishes or grilled salmon. It costs $16.80 at Vintages outlets. That's Montes Cherub Rosé of Syrah 2008 from Chile. For Post City Magazines, I'm Tony Aspler. (Vintages #37887, $16.80)

Tommasi Valpolicella Classico Superiore Ripasso 2005
Cold nights call for hearty casseroles and there's no better wine to match a meat stew than a Valpolicella Ripasso from the Veneto region. Currently at Vintages is Tommasi Valpolicella Classico Superiore Ripasso 2005 at $19.95 a bottle. The wine is dense ruby-purple in colour. The bouquet is a haunting mix of pepper, raisins and new leather. It's medium-bodied, with an easy drinking fruitiness, offering flavours of plum and spice, with an earthy note. Try it with ossobuco or lasagna. That's Tommasi Valpolicella Classico Superiore Ripasso 2005 from Italy. For Post City Magazines, I'm Tony Aspler. (Vintages Essentials #910430, $19.95)
