All Merlot. Dense purple-black colour with a cedar and spicy blackcurrant nose; mid weight with well extracted redcurrant and blueberry flavours and nicely integrated oak. Classic right bank Bordeaux. ****

D'Arenberg D'Arry's Original 2005 (McLaren Vale, South Australia)

Fifty percent each of Shiraz and Grenache. Deep ruby-purple with forward blackberry and herbal notes. Full-bodied with sweet spicy black fruit flavours with supple tannins. Good value. ****½

Sonoma-Cutrer Russian River Ranches Chardonnay 2006 (Russian River, Sonoma)

A California Chardonnay with a French beret. Medium straw colour; a nose of caramel, apple and macadamia nuts. Well balanced, clean lines, good length with a mineral nuance on the finish. ****½
