680News wine reviews – February 29–March 1, 2009

Banrock Station Shiraz Mataro 2007
Banrock Station in Australia has brought out an interesting blend of Shiraz and Mataro. Mataro is a synonym for Mourvèdre, a grape of the Rhône Valley. The wine from the 2007 vintage is dense purple colour with a smoky blackberry nose and a floral top note. It's medium-bodied, fruity, soft, easy drinking with a spicy note on the finish. It costs $10.95 at the LCBO. Try it with pepper steak. That's Banrock Station Shiraz Mataro 2007 from Australia. To read this review go to 680News.com and click on my link. Beringer Stone Cellars Chardonnay 2007
Looking for a ripe, easy-drinking Chardonnay at a great price? You need look no further than Beringer Stone Cellars Chardonnay 2007 from California. And, incidentally, those old cellars in Napa are well worth visiting. For $13.95 you get a wine that's light straw in colour with a sweet apple and pineapple nose. It's full on the palate with a fine thread of acidity that carries its green pineapple flavour to a nutty finish. Try it with roast chicken or Camembert cheese. That's Beringer Stone Cellars Chardonnay 2007 from California currently on LCBO shelves. For Post City Magazines, I'm Tony Aspler. ($13.95, LCBO #606806)
