Paarl Pale Dry Sherry (South Africa)

If you like an off-dry sherry this is a terrific bargain. Old gold in colour; with a nutty, caraway seed nose; the taste is off-dry, nutty and chamomile flowers, with great length. Serve chilled. Food match: chilled aperitif with nuts, spicy gazpacho soup.

Hardy's Nottage Hill Merlot 2000 (South East Australia)
$12.45
Aged 12 months in oak. Mature ruby colour; smoky, red berry and plum with a heavy accent of clovey oak. Full-bodied, generous plum flavour wrapped in spicy, clove. Food match: spicy chicken dishes, oxtail in wine sauce.

Masia Hill Oro 2001 (Penedes, Spain)
$7.95
A charming Muscat-dominated wine (blended with the local grapes, Parellada, Macabeo and Xarello, used for Spains's sparkling wine, cava) that makes an interesting aperitif. Pale straw colour; aromatic nose of orange and carnation; off-dry, grapefruit and cardamom flavours with sweetish middle fruit. Food matches: light curried dishes, Thai dishes.
