680News wine reviews – March 20–22, 2009

Beckett's Flat Five Stones Sauvignon Blanc/Semillon 2008
Jewish households will be looking for a  kosher wine for the Passover dinners. Well, you don't have to be Jewish to drink these two kosher wines from Australia's Margaret River region, Beckett's Flat Five Stones Sauvignon Blanc/Semillon 2008 at $18.95 and a companion red, Beckett's Flat Five Stones Cabernet Shiraz 2007 at $19.95. The white has flavours of gooseberries, sweet grass and melon. The red has a minty, cedary blackcurrant flavour, lean and sinewy with nicely integrated oak. They're both available at Vintages stores. That's Beckett's Flat Five Stones Sauvignon Blanc/Semillon 2008 at $18.95 and Beckett's Flat Five Stones Cabernet Shiraz 2007 from Australia. For Post City Magazines I'm Tony Aspler. (Vintages #108001, $18.95, and #58963, $19.95)

Bouchard Père & Fils Maçon-Lugny Saint-Pierre 2007
White Burgundy can get pricey but I came across one that's really terrific value. Bouchard Père & Fils Maçon-Lugny Saint-Pierre 2007 sells on the LCBO general list for $15.25. Straw coloured with a spicy pear nose and a rich pear and green pineapple flavour, it's medium-bodied, with well-integrated oak, clean as a whistle, and great length. A bargain at the price. Try it with grilled trout or Camembert cheese. That's Bouchard Père & Fils Maçon-Lugny Saint-Pierre 2007 from Burgundy. For Post City Magazine, I'm Tony Aspler. (LCBO #51573, $15.25)
