680News wine reviews – March 27–29, 2009

De Loach Cabernet Sauvignon California Series 2006
Now here's a real bargain from California – a 2006 Cabernet Sauvignon from DeLoach in Sonoma Valley for $15.05. The wine is deep ruby in colour with an intriguing bouquet of cedar, blackcurrants and vanilla oak. The flavour is rich with well extracted fruit. It's powerful but elegant, well balanced with a firm finish and supple tannins. I tasted this wine at 9 o'clock in the morning to make my notes and had it with lamb chops for dinner. Absolutely delicious. That's De Loach Cabernet Sauvignon California Series 2006. For Post City Magazines, I'm Tony Aspler. (LCBO #89250, $14.95)

Dan Aykroyd Winery Cabernet Shiraz 2007
Dan Aykroyd is a funny guy but he's pretty serious when it comes to wines that bear his name on the label. The Dan Aykroyd Winery Cabernet Shiraz 2007 from Niagara is deep ruby in colour with a nose of vanilla oak, blackberry and cedar. It's medium-bodied, dry, with red berry and redcurrant flavours and a tannic lift on the finish. A well-made wine that sells for $14.95. Try it with tomato-based pasta dishes or a veal sandwich. That's the Dan Aykroyd Winery Cabernet Shiraz 2007. For Post City Magazines, I'm Tony Aspler.  (LCBO #74062, $14.95)
