 WINES OF THE WEEK

More Wines of the Week

  • Peter Lehmann Cabernet Sauvignon 2005
  • Pierre Sparr Riesling 2007
  • Château de Gourgazaud 2007

Peter Lehmann Cabernet Sauvignon 2005 (Barossa Valley)
$19.95 (LCBO #91686)
The wine is a mature ruby colour; the nose is redolent with spicy blackcurrants. It's full-bodied creamy, sandalwood and black fruit flavours. ****
Food match: pepper steak; parmesan cheese

Pierre Sparr Riesling 2007 (Alsace)
$15 (LCBO #618546)
Pale straw in colour with a nose of white flowers, citrus, and minerals. It's already developing petrol notes a sign of maturing Riesling. It's medium-bodied with crisp green apple and citrus notes and good length. Well priced at $15 a bottle. ****
Food match: pork roast or onion tart.

Château de Gourgazaud 2007 (Minervois, Languedoc)
$12.30 (LCBO #22384)
The 2007 vintage of this wine is deeply coloured with a nose of blackberries and wild herbs. Its initial sweetness on the palate give way to a savoury note with good acidity. But make sure you choose the 2007 vintage, much more concentrated than the 2006. ***½
Food match: lamb chops; blue cheese
