Tapeña Garnacha 2007
The new wave of wines from Spain are worth the consideration of wine lovers who love a bargain. Tapeña Garnacha 2007 from the Tierra de Castilla region offers oodles of flavour. Deep purple colour, it has a bouquet of black raspberries with a floral top note. The wine is medium-bodied, with sweet and spicy black fruit flavours and rose petals. The tannins are soft and it's easy drinking. It costs $13.95 a bottle. Try it with pork ribs or Serrano ham. That's Tapeña Garnacha 2007 from Spain. For Post City Magazines, I'm Tony Aspler. (LCBO #72553, $13.95)

Angels Gate Merlot 2006
The Church has always figured prominently in the history of wine – so it's not without precedent to find vineyards on church property. Angels Gate in Niagara stands on land that was once owned by the Congregation of Missionary Sisters of Christian Charity. And the land has been put to good use with Angels Gate Merlot 2006. It costs $15.95 at the LCBO. Medium-bodied, fresh and fruit with red berry flavours, it has a good, dry finish. Try it with lamb sausages or tomato-based pasta. That's Angels Gate Merlot 2006 from Ontario. For Post City Magazines, I'm Tony Aspler. (LCBO #107722, $15.95)
