Nobilo Sauvignon Blanc 2008
New Zealand captured the wine world's imagination with its fresh and zesty Sauvignon Blancs. It even upstaged the Loire Valley, the ancestral home of this variety. If you want to discover the delights of New Zealand Sauvignon, at an affordable price, try Nobilo Sauvignon Blanc 2008. It costs $15.95 at the LCBO – as long as they're not on strike. The wine is pale straw in colour with a good varietal nose of gooseberries, cut grass and passion fruit. It's round on the palate with a melon and green plum flavour riding on lively acidity. Match it with goat's cheese salad or asparagus. That's Nobilo Sauvignon Blanc 2008 from New Zealand. For Post City Magazines, I'm Tony Aspler. ($15.95, LCBO #554444)

Winzer Krems Grüner Veltliner 2008
I predict that Austria's signature grape – Grüner Veltliner – is about to make its presence felt. First of all, it's not Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc or Riesling. Grüner Veltliner has a unique flavour profile that ranges from peach to grapefruit with a white pepper note and an underlying thread of minerality. A good introduction to this grape variety is Winzer Krems Grüner Veltliner 2008. It's light straw in colour; minerally with a slight spritz on the palate. It's medium-bodied, dry with grapefruit and white pepper flavours. It costs $10.95 at the LCBO. Works well with Wiener schnitzel. That's Winzer Krems Grüner Veltliner 2008 from Austria. For Post City Magazines, I'm Tony Aspler. ($10.95, LCBO #589002)
