Gallo Estate Chardonnay 1998 (Northern Sonoma)
Straw colour; vanilla, apple with a hint of Burgundian barnyard; full-bodied,
ripe and rich with mouth-filling butterscotch and lemon flavours. Great
Fattoria la Ripa Chianti Classico Riserva 1999 (Tuscany)
Purple colour, very youthful looking; cedar, chestnut and dried cherry
on the nose; classic chianti flavour, cherry, vanilla oak, lively acidity
with a long lingering finish.
Vidal Estate Cabernet Sauvignon Merlot 2000 (Hawkes Bay, New Zealand)
Dense purple; spicy cassis and white pepper bouquet; juicy, fruity and
elegant with a wonderful harmony of fruit, oak, acid, tannin and alcohol.
November 16 release:
Malivoire Chardonnay Moira Vineyard 2000 (Niagara Peninsula)
A really fine Ontario Chardonnay built in Montrachet style. Yellow straw
colour; intense nose of citrus, apple, toast with a barnyard note; spicy,
rich and full-bodied with great balance. Impresssive.
Cuvaison Merlot 1999 (Napa Valley)
Dense purple colour; spicy, vanilla nose, not showing a lot of fruit yet;
firmly structured, full-bodied blueberry flavour with a caramel note;
well balanced, nicely integrated oak, soft tannins yielding to a smoky,
toasty finish. Hold for two years at least.
Gonzalez-Byass Noe Pedro Ximenez Muy Viejo (Jerez, Spain)
Brown with an olive green rim; liquid raisins; intense, thick and unctuously
sweet with a toffee flavour and nutty finish.
