Hillebrand Artist Series Unoaked Chardonnay 2008
For the past three years Hillebrand, the Niagara winery, has been holding a competition for local artists to supply the label art for their bargain-priced Artist Series portfolio. This year there are twelve wines featuring Canadian artists. I really liked the Unoaked Chardonnay 2008. It's pale straw colour with a delicate nose of apple and apple blossom; it's dry, clean, elegant and great value at $10.95 a bottle. Try it with fish or seafood dishes. Oyster Bay Pinot Noir 2007
I was tasting a bottle of Oyster Bay Pinot Noir 2007 from New Zealand the other day, writing my notes and deconstructing the flavours. My wife Deborah cut right through to the heart of the matter and said, "That's simply delicious." For the record the wine has a smoky, toasty, raspberry nose; it's medium-bodied, with sweet creamy fruit and a spicy mid palate. It costs $19.95 at Vintages outlets. Try it with veal chop or duck breast. That's Oyster Bay Pinot Noir 2007 at Vintages. For Post City Magazines, I'm Tony Aspler. ($19.95, Vintages #590414)
