680News wine reviews – August 7–9, 2009

Gray Fox Chardonnay 2007
A Chardonnay from California at under $7.50 a bottle. I thought I was seeing things. But if you're prepared to buy a magnum of Gray Fox Chardonnay 2007 – that's 1500 mL – it'll cost you $14.95. It's cheap and cheerful. not much on the nose but enough sweet apple and pear fruit to sustain the flavour. Chill it and gulp it by the pool. That's Gray Fox Chardonnay 2007 from California. If you miss any of my reviews you can catch them by going to 680News.com and clicking on my link. For Post City Magazines, I'm Tony Aspler.   ($14.95 for 1500 mL, LCBO #107193)

Open Riesling-Gewurztraminer 2008
Vincor has just released a new line of Ontario VQA wines simply called Open. They are all line-priced at $11.95 at the LCBO. The one that I really liked as a good summer aperitif is the Open Riesling-Gewurztraminer 2008. Pale straw in colour, it has a spicy, light lychee and grapefruit nose. It's off-dry with pink grapefruit and honey flavours, well balanced with good acidity, and easy drinking. You could also serve it with Thai or Chinese food. That's Open Riesling-Gewurztraminer 2008 from Ontario. For Post City Magazines, I'm Tony Aspler. ($11.95, LCBO #134965)
