680News wine reviews – August 21–23, 2009

Aveleda Fonte Vinho Verde 2008
The ideal summer wine for the hot weather is Vinho Verde, the so-called green wine of Northern Portugal. The "green" refers to the landscape where the grapes are grown – not the colour of the wine. It's light in alcohol and dances on the palate with its slightly spritzy character. Try Aveleda Fonte Vinho Verde 2008. It has a nose of white flowers, lemon and white peach. It's off-dry with a refreshing lemony finish. It costs $8.95 a bottle. Chill it well. That's Aveleda Fonte Vinho Verde 2008 from Portugal. For Post City Magazines, I'm Tony Aspler. ($8.95, LCBO #5322)

Georges Duboeuf Chardonnay 2007
If you're a Chardonnay fan and white Burgundy is a little too much for your weekly wine budget, pick up a bottle of Georges Duboeuf Chardonnay 2007 from the Pays d'Oc in southern France. It comes on like a Pouilly-Fuissé with it minerally, green pineapple flavour. It finishes with a nutty note and lively citrus acidity. And it's only half the price of Pouilly-Fuissé at $10.95. Try it with Caesar salad or chicken breast . That's Georges Duboeuf Chardonnay 2007 from France. For Post City Magazines, I'm Tony Aspler. ($10.95, LCBO #20552)
