680News wine reviews – September 18–20, 2009

Nederburg Sauvignon Blanc 2008
South Africa is producing Sauvignon Blanc in New Zealand style for nearly half the price. It may not have New Zealand's intense passion fruit flavour but it leans more to the Loire Valley in its flavour profile. Nederburg Sauvignon Blanc 2008 is very pale in colour with a nose of gooseberries, herbs and wet stones; it's fresh and lively on the palate with a tart gooseberry flavour. It costs $10.95 a bottle. Try it with grilled trout or asparagus. That's Nederburg Sauvignon Blanc 2008 from the Western Cape district of South Africa. For Post City Magazines, I'm Tony Aspler. ($10.95, LCBO #382713)

Henry of Pelham Pinot Noir 2007
The reds wines from Ontario's 2007 vintage have been rightly celebrated, and one of the most successful varieties was Pinot Noir. Henry of Pelham made a tasty Pinot Noir in 2007 that sells at the LCBO for $16.95. The wine is light ruby in colour with a nose of raspberries and minerals. It has an elegant taste of black raspberries carried on lively acidity. Try it with grilled salmon or quail. That's Henry of Pelham Pinot Noir 2007 from Ontario. If you miss any of these reviews you can find them by visiting 680News.com and clicking on my link. For Post City Magazines, I'm Tony Aspler. ($16.95, LCBO #13904)
