680News wine reviews – October 9–11, 2009

Montes Limited Selection Sauvignon Blanc 2008
The Leyda Valley in Chile has become the region of choice for growers of Sauvignon Blanc. Montes Limited Selection Sauvignon Blanc 2008 really expresses the terroir of this cool growing zone close to the Pacific Ocean. The wine has a bouquet of cut grass, ripe gooseberry and citrus notes – aromas that expand on the full-bodied palate into deliciously dry flavours. It costs an affordable $14.95 a bottle at Vintages outlets. Try it with goat's cheese or grilled scallops. That's Montes Limited Selection Sauvignon Blanc 2008. For Post City Magazines, I'm Tony Aspler. ($12.95, Vintages #32060)

Luigi Bosca Reserva Malbec 2006
Some of the best bang for the buck you can get these days in Malbec from Argentina. Recently I tasted a wine that is now at Vintages which really impressed me with its richness of flavour: Luigi Bosca Reserva Malbec 2006 is dense purple in colour with an expressive nose of tobacco and vanilla oak with a floral grace note. It's full-bodied with rich, spicy sweet blackberry flavours finishing with smoky oak and cinnamon notes. The cost? $16.95. Try it with steak or leg of lamb. That's Luigi Bosca Reserva Malbec 2006 from Argentina at Vintages outlets. For Post City Magazines, I'm Tony Aspler. ($16.95, Vintages #79293)
