680News wine reviews – October 23–25, 2009

D'Arenberg d'Arry's Original Shiraz Grenache 2006
D'Arenberg is one of my favourite Australian wineries because they make delicious, well-crafted wines at all price points. A Vintages Essential – which means it should always be available at Vintages – is  D'Arenberg d'Arry's Original Shiraz Grenache 2006. Until November 8th it's a limited time offer at $18.95 and then goes up a buck after that. The wine has a nose of blackberries, vanilla oak and dark chocolate. On the palate, it's dry with well extracted blackberry and plum flavours and a tannic lift on the finish. Try it with lamb or grilled Portobello mushrooms. That's D'Arenberg d'Arry's Original Shiraz Grenache 2006 from Australia. For Post City Magazines, I'm Tony Aspler. ($18.95 until November 8, then $19.95, Vintages #942904)

Sileni Cellar Selection Cabernet Franc Rosé 2008
Rosé is basically a summer wine but there are some pinks that are wines for all seasons because of their concentration and power. The one I have in mind comes from New Zealand. It's Sileni Cellar Selection Cabernet Franc Rosé 2008. It's deep pink in colour with flavours of raspberry and strawberry with a peppery note and a touch of sweetness. What makes the wine so appealing is its texture on the palate. It costs $14.95 at Vintages outlets. Try it with pork loin or garlic chicken. That's Sileni Cellar Selection Cabernet Franc Rosé  2008 from New Zealand. For Post City Magazines, I'm Tony Aspler. ($14.95, Vintages #599951)
