 WINES OF THE WEEK

More Wines of the Week

  • Spinelli Malbec 2007
  • Bollini Pinot Grigio 2008
  • Masi Campofiorin 2006

Three Italian wines this week...

Spinelli Malbec 2007 (Abruzzo, Italy)
$7.95 (LCBO #143750)
Malbec from Abruzzo! The flavour owes more to the Old World than the New. That is, it's not jammy but floral and fruity with a dry blackberry flavour and good acidity. It's an easy drinking wine, as you'd expect for the price. ***½ (86)
Food match: pizza or burgers

Bollini Pinot Grigio 2008 (Trentino, Italy)
$15.95 until November 8th, then $16.95 (Vintages #951319)
Nothing wishy-washy about this Pinot Grigio. Straw colour with a nose of fresh peaches backed by lively citrus acidity. Medium-bodied, well extracted fruit with a solid texture. **** (88)
Food match: grilled scallops; chicken cacciatore

Masi Campofiorin 2006 (Veneto)
$17.45 (LCBO #155051)
A ripasso Valpolicella with great depth of colour; a nose of black cherries, graphite and vanilla oak; very rich on the palate with lively acidity and a lovely mouth feel. Great structure. The best Campofiorin I've tasted in many years ***** (90)
Food match: osso buco, veal parmigiana
